Hello, and welcome to Astral Honey!
Growing up, I always had a surface-level fascination with astrology. My friends and I eagerly pored over teen magazines to find out who we were supposed to be according to our sun signs. Sometimes I’d find a paragraph or two that fit me, but most of the time, I struggled to feel any true kinship towards my zodiac group. Basically, I never felt like a Sagittarius. But on I went, claiming Sagittarius as my astrological identity despite many feelings to the contrary. That was fine with me though, because at that time in my life, astrology was just for fun.
Many moons later, my relationship with astrology drastically changed. Don’t get me wrong, I still think astrology is a ton of fun. If it wasn’t, I probably would be running a blog to discuss word game strategies instead (that is fun, right??? Sorry, I have a very Capricorn-heavy chart). But after years of study and exposure to the craft, I’ve come to appreciate the art of astrology far more than I did in my youth.
I was about 2 years in to therapy (we can all use a tune-up sometimes!) when I decided to try using my birth chart to understand myself better. After learning what it meant to have a Sagittarius sun in the 12th house, and what it meant to have a Sagittarius sun squared by Saturn of all things, I was hooked. Learning about my Capricorn rising helped me to understand the bigger picture of who I am even more. For those of you who are newer to astrology, this combination basically makes me the most tightly-wound Sagittarius you could imagine. I’m being dramatic (mostly), but I do carry my Sag traits with a little dash of introversion and an extra splash of caution.
Finally, things were starting to make sense. I was absolutely a Sagittarius after all – but in a way that those teen magazines could never capture. There was so much more to the story, but I would have to piece together the knowledge on my own.
I soaked up all the information I could. I studied from books, blog posts, websites, podcasts, seminars, and teachers. Surprisingly, many of the conclusions I came to in therapy coincided with my findings from my birth chart! Suddenly, I was making all sorts of life-altering self-realizations. Now, keep in mind that astrology can never replace therapy, but my newfound hobby certainly acted as an entertaining supplement. My pain was validated, as well as my hopes, dreams, fears, and life purpose. The more I understood my birth chart, the more grounded I felt. Later as I learned how to read other people’s charts, I grew to appreciate how different our life paths are, and why it can be so harmful as well as just plain nonsensical to compare ourselves to others. We are all on our own journeys here.
Astrology is many things. It is a language, a study of patterns, and a tool for self-discovery. It is an ancient storytelling practice with a millennia of history. It’s a way for us to make sense of the chaotic world we inhabit. It’s a study of human behavior, and a reminder that we are all united in our shared experiences. It’s the reassurance that you were made to be exactly who you are, no one else, and your duty is simply to be the best you you can possibly be.
There is power in knowing yourself. As I continue to grow in my knowledge of the craft, I want to empower people to expand their perception of self and the world around them. I hope that this website is a helpful resource as you embark upon your personal journey of self-discovery. Ask yourself the hard questions, the dreamy questions, the compassionate questions. Then, let the stars lead the way.
